On Monday, we had Constable Georgie come in and talk to us about her career. As a police officer, she is a front line worker who works with many amazing people and helps many different members of our Christchurch community.
Each day, she has to put on the uniform and wear her Police vest. This has her torch, handcuffs, taser and pepper spray.
Here you can see Angus trying on the vest.

It is much heavier than you think!
We asked many questions, like what are the good parts ofbeing an officer and what are the bad parts.
Helping others and getting to know people were a positive
and the paper work can be seen as a negative.
We asked about the fitness test that you have to complete to
be an officer – this is the same test that some of our students
completed at the start of the year at the Blue Lights competition.
Lots of running, pushing and jumping through things! Luckily,
Officer Georgie only has to do this every 2 years!
How do you study to become a police officer was another great
question. We found out that there is a college up in Wellington
that is 16 weeks. You then come back to your home town and have a mentor police officer that helps
you for 2 years. This is what Officer Georgie does and she loves it! She likes being able to mentor others.
Did you know, Police Officers have to work 6 shifts in a row and then get 2 days off! They are very hard
workers!
We also got to have a look at the Police Car – it can go fast (not that we saw this). In the back of each car, there
are road spikes that are used in car chases or when they need to stop a car. This can be tricky to get out!

Thank you Officer Georgie for coming out to visit us and tell us all about your amazing job!
From Room 9/10 and some future police officers!
