Korean Learning

Students in our Korean class recently enjoyed a special cultural experience. They learned about the Korean flag and made pinwheels, played the traditional game Tuho, and tried on beautiful Hanbok. The class also practiced the traditional Korean bow. The event was a great success, with everyone participating happily and enthusiastically.

Winter tournament

Last week , the year 7/8 netballers at NBC got to participate in a school tournament for netball. There were many schools who were competing in the tournament also willing to play their best to have the opportunity to go to Canterbury’s. The tournament was held at Hagley Park and NBC started their first game at 11:00am.

The 7/8 NBC netballers won all their games that were in their category , especially a very strong team. NBC put all their work and might into the game to take the official win. All the parents and adults were amazed by how strong they played.

Our netballers ended up in the semi finals where they won that game as well and got to play in finals. NBC were already going to Canterbury’s because they placed in the top 2 but unfortunately they didn’t win the finals (very close game though ) apart from that , NBC did an amazing job participating in the tournament and will be competing in Canterbury’s on the 11th of September.

Responsible Risks

We have been learning about seeking excellence. One of the ways we can do this is to take responsible risks. The creative crew upstairs at NBC came up with ways to get this message across. Here are some examples. You can see more by visiting the students blogs by following this link. Which way do you think gets the massage across and nails the rubric?

CCC meets NBC

Catholic Schools day saw the upstair intermediates head out to Christchurch Cathedral College to experience their singing, acting and ,indeed, dancing skills. The show was The Addam’s Family and you could see the hard work put in by all involved. We caught up with a few familiar faces and look forward to our next invite. Thanks to the performers and Mr Nichols for the invite.

Catching up with the stars! (Maybe one is close to home!)

Reporting the news

One of our reading groups has been researching the news and what goes into a report or broadcast. We have some lofty goals to produce our own report of the goings on at NBC. Here is an example of Isa’s ideas around what we need to learn before we can get on the air.

Duffy Role Model Assembly/ DJ Danny Ill

On this fine day/Tuesday we had our Duffy role model assembly.

Our role model talker this term was Danny Mataki Jnr, He is a DJ. He grew up in Aranui  Christchurch and became a DJ around the age 15. He does DJ classes and events at wedding, birthdays, and even at some libraries.

I enjoyed the assembly because it was cool to learn about his career and the books he read growing up. He shared five books from his childhood one being a book that his brother wrote about maori myths and legends, and the others are some books that are not as popular as that and are quite hard to get your hands on. Some of the questions people asked him were : What age he had started his DJ career, How many books have you read in your lifetime and what inspired him to do DJing.

Here is a picture of the intermediates with Danny;

Camping with the cold

The intermediates went to Hanmer this year for our camp.

Despite the rain and powercuts we had a great time together and enjoyed some new and old experiences.

Tree climbing, Mountain biking, Orienteering, Hot Pools and Hikes were the set tasks but the best part was hanging out with our friends and working together.

Huge thanks to all our caring parent helpers who kept us fed and safe.
